What a whirlwind of a day! We were in shock that he came so quick, I thought I had good week or two left in me, but he had other ideas~
On Tuesday morning I had my weekly doctor visit at 10:30 am. When the doctor checked me, she said I was at about 4-5 cm dilated. My question was, does that mean I'm in labor?? She said that I could go for about a week like that. There you go, I thought I was good for another week, mainly because I hadn't been feeling ANYTHING up to that point.
I left to pick Riley up at school, along with a friend of hers that I was watching for the afternoon. I felt uncomfortable, but no more than usual. I made the kids lunch, then was sitting the for an hour or 2 working on a project for church. When I got up to walk. "I was like, Ouch!" This went on for an hour or 2, so i called Mike to see if he could come home early, just in case. Then I called my Mom and asked if she could move her flight up one day - I really wanted her to be here when I went into labor, she was coming on Thursday- if I could just make it until she got here!
Mike got home, we had planned to go to Costco that night, but I opted out, wanting just to rest. About 4:00, while he was gone, more painful contractions began, but not unbearable. I was still under the delusion that I could sleep the contractions off. I was laying down, when I got up, again, "I was like, OUCH, OUCH, OUCH!" with every step - this was the real deal.
Mike got home. I remember saying
"Mike" (in what he took as his wife's "I need you to do something for me" voice)
He says
"whatever it is, J, it needs to wait, I need to get all the groceries and get the kids in!"
I say
"I think we need to go to the hospital, I'm calling Sherri to come watch the kids"
He looks at me in shock
"Seriously? No way? Are you sure?
He was so cute, he was sprinting back and forth from the car to the kitchen. Asking if I was ok. Meanwhile, I start tidying up the house for Sherri to come over, having to stop every 5 minutes or so to breathe (I know, I'm cleaning the house while I'm in labor, crazy)
We head to the hospital. Get up to labor and delivery, the first thing out of my mouth is "Can I get an epidural?"
I am a lucky girl, the anesthesiologist was on the floor right then, and basically walked in with me to my room. And because I was already dilated to a 4, they didn't need to exam me, so with in 15 minutes of arriving at the hospital, I was feeling good with my epidural in place. That was about 6:30 pm.
At about 7:30, they came in and broke my water. With my other babies, I was in labor for about 8 hours after my water broke, even with petocin. But by 8:00, the nurse came in and checked me, she looked at me and laughed, and said you are fully dilated, I'm going to call your doctor.
Mike and I just looked at each other in disbelief. We thought we had some time to just sit and relax, and wait for things to progress, guess not!
My doctor got there at about 9:00, and Chase was born at 9:12. It seemed like a blink of an eye. But I am so grateful that labor was a breeze and that he is here and healthy!
